The Project Arrow PTA is excited to announce our Short Story Writing Contest for PA students in Grades 3-8! This is a chance for our creative thinkers to let their imaginations shine, practice storytelling, and win a fun prize.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT: END OF DAY - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2025
📚 Elementary PA Students (Grades 3-5)
Choose one of these prompts for your short story:
Imagine you woke up one morning with a superpower. What is it, and how would you use it?
If you could trade places with an adult for a day, who would it be and why?
You invent a machine that makes life easier. What does it do and how does it change the world?
✍️ Contest Rules (Grades 3-5):
Word count: 300–700 words
Typed: 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced
OR handwritten: up to 3 pages
Include your full name, grade, and school

📚 Middle PA Students (Grades 6-8)
Please write a short story based on the following topic below:
Imagine you (or a character you create) have been trying to reach someone for what feels like forever, and today, they finally answer the phone.
Who is this person, and why have you been so determined to speak with them?
What happens during the conversation, and how does it change things for you (or your character)?

Word count: 500-750 words
Typed: 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced
OR handwritten: up to 3 pages
Include your full name, grade, and school

Scoring will be based on the following criteria:
Content & Ideas (Does the story contain interesting details that pull the reader in?)
Organization (Is the story well organized, with a clear order that makes it exciting to read?)
Descriptive Details (Does the story provide details that make the story come alive?)
Theme Analysis (Did the writer explain and expand on their topic?)
